Background

Prior to earning a certificate in landscape design, Tricia studied geology and fine arts, graduating from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor of Fine Arts. At that time, many of her paintings featured natural landscapes in rich colors, which perhaps planted the seed for her beautiful design work today.

Design Approach

Using the principles of classic garden design, Tricia's thoughtful and sustainable designs are guided by her intuitive ability to connect to the environment -- developing a very individual "sense of place" for each project. She specializes in creating strong bones for the garden that offers a year-round structure for building layered views to the outdoor living spaces that are typical of her work.

In treating the garden as an outdoor living space, Tricia spends the time to get to know a client's personality, and works with them towards their personal vision for their home. The artist's rhythmic, colorful ideas are based in her deep expertise in soil ecology, plant identification and selection for all climates and seasons - adding confidence to a successful planting plan. Artful ornamentation that becomes the client's "signature" is not forgotten, either: by including personal art or symbols and recycled elements for interest, the client's vision becomes real.

Whether the design goal is fun, dramatic or sanctuary-like, Tricia's high standard of customer service and attention to detail produces beautiful, smart designs that evoke a sense of wonder.
